Every year in November or December, Jewish people around the world gather to celebrate Hanukkah with friends and family for eight-night and days. This joyous Jewish holiday is also known as the festival of lights. This year Hanukkah will celebrate in from Sunday, December 22 to Monday, December 30.
Hanukkah is a Jewish festival commemorating the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire. This victory was seen as a miracle from God. Jews celebrate by reciting a blessing to God and lighting a Hanukkah MENORAH, or Hanukkiah. One by one, candles are lights on every day of Hanukkah. A helper candle is called “The Shamash”, is used to light the others. Jews also celebrate Hanukkah by singing songs and eating foods made with oil, including jelly-filled doughnuts, or sufganiyot, and potato pancake or latkes. And children play spinning a four-sided top called a dreidel in an attempt to win a pot of Hanukkah gelt or gold -foil-wrapped chocolate coins. Send Happy Hanukkah Wishes to your loved ones or Jewish friends who are celebrating. Though modern-day Hanukkah like Christmas, often consists of exchanging gifts. The gift of Hanukkah is a reminder that we are loved. The festival is meant to celebrate the miracle that occurred over 2000 years ago. The survival of the Jews and the power of small light to overcome darkness.
