Rosh Hashana – it is the Jewish new year. According to the account that begins symbolically with the creation of the first human being (Adam), we are about to start the year 5779.
At the beginning of a new year, we judged by our actions and decisions have taken the previous year. To get to this “trial” the best possible thing is that we prepare spiritually during the last month of the year, the month of Elul. We reflect we apologise to whom it may concern, we recognise our achievements and failures, to project ourselves into the future.
That is why we greet each other with “Shaná Tová umetuká” which means “good and sweet year”.
When is Rosh Hashanah?
This year Rosh Hashana begins on Sunday, September 9, 2019, at sunset. The holiday lasts two days, both in Israel and in the Golá (outside of Israel).
Both days are of “Yom Tov”, that is, days when we do not perform work or daily routines. On the contrary, we live a different time, we attend religious services, and we share dinner and festive lunches with family and loved ones.
